So my Bro and I leave one of my favorite bars, Zanzabar, to venture down the street to Tink’s.  For those of you who have been avoiding the place for the last four years, let me assure you nothing has changed, not even the jukebox.  They still are cash only, charge $2.50 for a domestic beer, and despite the wonderful ordinance passed a few years back, still allow patrons to smoke inside. Just walking through the door is like walking back in time, seriously, the songs on the jukebox capture the year 1999 better than any Prince song.  Apparently they like to adhere to all things 1999 at Tink’s including hair styles, or is that 1989?

I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed a little. I had really hoped that at least the bar would be smoke free (I for one can think of better things to leave a bar smelling like than cigarettes).  Beyond that my expectations were nil.  I can’t believe this place can claim to be the only lesbian bar in Louisville!  I think it would be better if we did not have a lesbian bar in this town, if this is all that is offered.  Seriously, someone is holding on to some major nostalgia to allow the establishment to make this claim.  Perhaps if we could revoke the status, it would pave the way for a legitimate dyke bar to arise from the ashes.

I think it is time to put Tink’s to rest.  Let’s all have a moment of silence.  Let’s say goodbye to the mullets, the flipped up polo shirt collars, and to making out in the dirty hallway.  Let’s just close the door and hope a new one opens.  In fact maybe its time to put all specialty bars to rest and embrace diversity and integration.  When money is tight, spend it right.  Support your local businesses that deserve your patronage, respect the law, and don’t give a rat’s ass if you’re gay or not, or at least support the ones that don’t try to make money off your sexual orientation.
